Threads Through Time: Centuries of Style in Madison County
August 11 – September 7, 2026 | Madison County Historical Society
10 am- 3 pm
The Madison County Historical Society (MCHS) is proud to announce Threads Through Time: Centuries of Style in Madison County, a month‑long special exhibition opening August 11, 2026. This immersive exhibit invites visitors to step directly into the wardrobes of the past, exploring how fashion reflected identity, status, and community across generations.
Featuring original garments, accessories, and photographs from the MCHS collection, Threads Through Time highlights the evolving silhouettes, materials, and cultural influences that shaped everyday life. From the structured elegance of the Victorian era to the refined simplicity of mid‑century style, guests will discover how clothing served as both personal expression and a window into the social fabric of Madison County.
Self‑guided tours will be offered to explore the exhibition. Admission: $10 non‑members | $5 MCHS members. Reserve entry times below.
Special Program: Under It All — August 12 at 12 PM & 2 PM
As part of the exhibition, MCHS will present Under It All, a hands‑on interpretive program offered on August 12 at 12 PM and 2 PM. This engaging session takes visitors behind the scenes of Victorian fashion to reveal the essential undergarments that created the iconic silhouettes of the 19th century.
Participants will explore how structure, style, and practicality worked together beneath the gowns, shaping movement, comfort, and social expectations. The program also traces how these hidden layers influenced fashion trends for generations.
Admission to Under It All is FREE for MCHS members and for visitors who have purchased advance tickets to the Threads Through Time exhibit.
