250 Year Celebration

Our nation just commemorated the 250th anniversary of the United States, and the Madison County Historical Society is reflecting on the remarkable stories, national and local, that have shaped who we are today. This milestone offers a powerful moment to honor our shared past and to ensure that the history of Madison County continues to be preserved for generations to come.

Although Madison County has not been around since 1776, our community has played a meaningful role in the American story.

As we celebrate America’s 250th year, we are committed to honoring these stories, and many more, through exhibitions, educational programs, community events, and ongoing preservation work. But we cannot do this alone.

Your generosity has always been at the heart of our mission. Today, we invite you to make a special commemorative donation in honor of the United States Semiquincentennial. Your contribution will directly support:

Preservation of historic artifacts, documents, and photographs that tell Madison County’s story

Educational programming for students, families, and lifelong learners

Exhibits and events celebrating the county’s role in American history

Maintenance and restoration of our historic 1849 Cottage Lawn estate

Every gift, large or small, helps ensure that the history of Madison County remains accessible, engaging, and protected.

To mark this historic anniversary, we are pleased to offer a special token of appreciation: For every donation of $50 or more, you are invited to stop by Cottage Lawn to pick up a Semiquincentennial commemorative coin. This keepsake is our way of thanking you for helping preserve the stories that define our community.

We hope you will join us in honoring 250 years of American history by making a tax‑deductible donation to the Madison County Historical Society. Together, we can preserve the legacy of our community for the next 250 years.

Support the Madison County Historical Society

As a supporter of the Madison County Historical Society, you help keep our county’s stories alive. Whether you’ve enjoyed a guided tour, taken part in a workshop, or joined us for one of our community events, we hope those experiences have shown you how meaningful our work is. Your continued support ensures we can preserve the past and inspire future generations.

When you give to MCHS, you make a direct impact. Your donation helps us:

  • Care for our collection — from archival materials to historic objects that tell Madison County’s story

  • Create engaging programs and exhibits that connect residents, students, and visitors with local history

  • Restore and maintain our historic buildings, including the beloved Cottage Lawn estate

  • Support community events that celebrate our shared heritage

  • Expand educational opportunities for learners of all ages

Your generosity keeps history accessible, vibrant, and relevant. Thank you for helping us protect the treasures of Madison County and for being part of the story we share with our community.

Charitable Giving

Have you thought about end of the year giving? We hope you consider making a charitable donation to the society and leave a legacy to a worthy cause that is important to you. By giving a lasting gift in the form of a check or stock to the society you receive the benefit of a charitable tax deduction. The society’s Memorial Walkway is another opportunity to support the society while honoring and remembering a loved one

All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the Internal Revenue Code
